Oh but we’re poets

The empires I built from words
Shattered before the dawn
Oh but we’re poets
We can only smile
with a thread tucked into our lips
Holding those million storms behind
Happiness is an illusion
Out of our reach
We breathe with ink in our veins
Our pain is never OUR pain
It’s a borrowed currency
From the people who left
And every word we write is a breath
We can never completely inhale
